Congratulations to the dinner committee, led by Azmir Ariffin, for managing to turn our annual event into one that was truly worthy of the Petrovic name.
The theme was simple enough: celebrating the raya spirit.
Members arrived decked out in traditional attire, and walked down the stairs leading into the halls of Arrows on Swanston, one by one, where there were registered and given their lucky draw tickets. In keeping with the theme, the tables were very simply set with green candles, and each guest received a little package filled with sweets, a throwback to the nostalgia of youth and the sweets that were synonymous with it.
The event formally started with the ushering of our VIPs in, including Dr Ali Abdul Rahman, the Malaysian Education Attaché, and his lovely wife, the Petronas food providers, and Associate Professor Andrew Ooi from Melbourne University as well as representatives from Monash University.
We all laughed at the slide shows and picture presentations that were displayed. We applauded the very entertaining band from Monash, comprised of Zafril, Azmir, Aliyas, Safwan and Mazlan, with their rendition of the classical raya songs – it really set the mood, and who knew Zaf could sing like that?! We laughed at the final years performances chronicling their journey past and journey to come, as expected, with people like Eby and Chap on the team. We sat on the edges of our seats waiting for the lucky draw of the night – although I think the highlight definitely was the ‘duit raya’ that we received, complete with a five ringgit note!
As per tradition, the seniors walked the stage and were presented for tokens of appreciation for their contributions throughout their stay – little glass metcards with their names printed on them, truly Melbourne indeed! It’s always a bit of an emotional moment when we realize that many of us will be ending this chapter of their lives and starting a new one.
Congratulations to the dinner committee for organizing a fantastic event, and the best of luck to our graduating members for their lives to come!
Thanks to everyone who made it to the AGM!
The AGM went fair smoothly, starting with the Presidential Speech, continued with a quick summary of the yearly activities that Petrovic had been involved in, followed by the Treasurer’s Report, constitutional amendments (which there were none), and ending with the voting of the new committee.
We appreciate you taking time out of your schedules to make your vote. The AGM went smoothly and we would like to thank Melbourne University for sponsoring the venue, we appreciate the help that the university has extended to Petrovic throughout the years.
Thank you to the old committee for their hard work and best of luck to the new committee! We hope that the committee will keep growing and improving by leaps and bounds, and we’re sure that everyone will put in their best efforts!

Hi all,
Apologies, but there is a last minute room change at the moment due to a mix-up with Melbourne Uni staff.
We are still based in the Sydney Myer Asia Centre, but we are now using the Yasuko Hiraoka Myer Room (I know, what a mouthful hey?)
Same building, I repeat, it is in the same building.
We will have ushers on the day, so don't stress too much. See you all there tomorrow!

PETROVIC DIGEST
Results
En Ezidy has requested all scholars to please email their semester results to him preliminary to having the university email your results to him. Please email your semester results to En Ezidy at petronas.advisor@bigpond.com and CC it to petsa@acay.com.au.
Semester BBQ
We're excited to let you know that this semester's barbecue will be hosted by the Monash Petrovic kids! Take this opportunity to head over to Clayton (as it's only fair, because we make them drag themselves all the way to the city!) and experience the difference!
Place : Rusden House, Monash University Clayton
662 Blackburn Road, Clayton
Date : 10th August 2008
Time : 1030 am until 130 pm
The Petrovic Committee will probably organize going together some time in the morning if anyone's concerned about losing their way, so join us and let's get lost together!
MASCA Games Reimbursement
There are two parts to this:
Firstly, can people please email me the list of events which Petrovic scholars participated in, and their results as well as pictures so I can put this up on our website (we're proud of you, no matter how you did).
Secondly, and this is incentive for all those who participated, can you please email me your name, university and contact details. Petronas scholars were partially sponsored by Petronas, however, as Petrovic was unaware of this, we are collecting retrospective claims from all you athletes out there so we can reimburse part of your travel costs. I am unsure as to how much we are claiming for, but any money is good money!
Thanks guys! Hoping to see all of you at the first second semester activity, and until then, enjoy what's left of the holidays!!
